About Jeff Campbell Photography

As one of Austin's premiere Wedding and Portrait Photographers, Jeff Campbell doesn't just take pictures, he tells stories. Using the latest tools available to capture, edit and preserve once-in-a-lifetime moments with passion and skill, he has an uncanny ability to photograph everyday moments in a way that recognizes their extraordinary qualities. Since childhood Jeff has had a number of influences that led him to his calling as a wedding and portrait photographer. His father was the family photojournalist and often had a still camera or Super 8 movie camera close at hand. Those archives of his family are Austin Wedding and Portrait Photographer Jeff Campbellamong Jeff's most treasured possessions, as is his very first camera given to him on his 13th birthday by a classmate whose father who owned the local camera shop. As an adult, Jeff's career in advertising and marketing had him frequently working closely with photographers.

In the late 1990's Jeff journeyed to India and Nepal, where he traveled for a year with a backpack weighed down with just a few personal belongings and 2 cameras:  a Canon AE-1 with zoom and wide lenses and a lightweight 35mm point-and-shoot camera. Already confident in his technical ability as a photographer, Jeff observed two important things while traveling in India. Subjects reacted differently to the small, unobtrusive camera than they did to the large, fancy camera. It was on this trip that Jeff started experimenting with using the camera as an extension of himself rather than as a separate object in his hands. This led to amazing accidents and unexpected perspectives, truly shifting his vision for photography. Jeff's travels in India were followed closely by the introduction of digital cameras and the explosion of information on the Internet, catalysts that spurred his passion and artistic nature as well as the further development of his technical skills both in shooting and editing.  Possibly the biggest influence in his artistic development was the transformational experience of becoming a father. From the moment Jeff laid eyes on his son, the world opened up in new ways and ignited his instinct to chronicle life.

Equally fascinated by the technical challenge of photography as by the artistic, interpretive, communicative and collaborative nature of photography, Jeff has an affinity for establishing a rapport with his subjects. This trust affords glimpses into the subtle nuances of their character and personality, allowing him to translate a fleeting moment into an heirloom image your family will treasure for generations.
